X-ray
An X-ray examination is a fast and accurate diagnostic imaging method that uses ionising radiation. It helps assess the condition of bones, joints, and internal organs, as well as detect a wide range of injuries and diseases.
How can I have an X-ray?
- You can have an X-ray with a referral from your treating physician, family doctor (GP), or medical specialist.
- If your examination is covered by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (Tervisekassa), it is provided free of charge with no co-payment.
- If your referral states that the examination is self-funded, you can have the X-ray as a paid service.
- No appointment is required — patients are seen on a walk-in basis throughout opening hours.
- The results will be explained by the doctor who referred you for the examination and will also be available in the national patient portal (Digilugu).
- In most cases, the radiology report is completed within one working day.

If you have a referral
- Simply visit any of our X-ray departments during opening hours at the location most convenient for you.
- Patients are seen on a walk-in basis.
If you do not have a referral
- Start by booking an appointment with your family doctor (GP) or a medical specialist, either at your usual healthcare provider or at Terena.
- Your doctor will determine whether imaging is necessary, decide which examination is appropriate, and issue a referral if needed.
- An X-ray examination cannot be performed without a medical referral.
