Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy helps prevent and relieve movement-related problems, restore or improve mobility, and support a person’s ability to manage everyday activities. A physiotherapist assesses movement and functionalcapacity and uses exercises, counselling, education, and methods that help patients better understand their body and health condition, along with other physiotherapy techniques.

A person is always considered as a whole — not only their diagnosis or a specific body structure, but also their everyday life, needs, and goals. The goal may be anything from recovering after surgery to being able to jump on a trampoline with your children again or goto the theatre without worrying about urinary leakage.

What problems can physiotherapy help with?

  • Back, joint, and muscle pain
  • Movement and balance problems
  • Recovery after an injury or surgery
  • Pelvic floor problems — incontinence, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, and pain during sexual intercourse
  • Pregnancy- and postpartum-related problems, including diastasis recti
  • Difficulties returning to everyday activities or sports
  • Wanting to be more active and support your health, but not knowing where to start

Recommendation: You don’t have to see a physiotherapist only after a problem has already developed. A consultation can help prevent health problems and support safe, informed, and healthy movement.

Physiotherapy Appointment (Pregnancy and Postpartum)

What problems or concerns can physiotherapy help with?

  • Back, pelvic or muscle pain during pregnancy and after childbirth
  • Pelvic floor-related problems, including urinary leakage, constipation and pelvic discomfort
  • Diastasis recti and restoration of abdominal wall function
  • Adapting physical activity and exercise during pregnancy, as well as a safe return to exercise after childbirth
  • Postpartum recovery, including recovery after a caesarean section, perineal tears or episiotomy, as well as prevention of potential problems

What does the appointment involve?

During the initial appointment, we discuss your symptoms, everyday activities, physical activity and individual goals, and assess your functional status and factors contributing to your symptoms. Depending on your needs, the assessment may include evaluation of movement, muscle strength, diastasis and pelvic floor function. When necessary and with the patient’s consent, pelvic floor muscle assessment may be performed vaginally or rectally.

Based on the assessment, we develop an individual treatment plan, which may include exercises, advice, modifications to physical activity and other appropriate physiotherapy methods.

During follow-up appointments, we assess changes and progress in recovery, adjust the treatment plan when necessary, and perform exercises or therapy under the guidance of the physiotherapist.
