Dermoscopy or mole examination
Dermoscopy is an examination performed by a dermatologist to assess moles and other skin changes using a special magnifying device.
Dermoscopy is an examination performed by a dermatologist to assess moles and other skin changes using a special magnifying device. This examination helps detect changes that may not be visible to the naked eye.
When should a mole be checked? — The ABCDE Rule
Dermatologists and surgeons use the ABCDE rule to assess changes in moles:
- A — Asymmetry – one half of the mole does not match the other half.
- B — Borders – the edges are irregular, jagged or blurred.
- C — Color – the color is uneven, with a mixture of brown, black, red or white shades.
- D — Diameter – the lesion is larger than 6 mm.
- E — Evolution – the mole has changed over time: it has grown, changed shape, started bleeding or become itchy.
If you notice any of these changes, consult a doctor as soon as possible.
